Activist Training in State College, PA on 11/9/2013

Activist Training State College PA
November 9, 2013

Attending a protest or a rally does not effect actual political change. Sign waving is a great way to increase awareness, but lobbying, letter writing, and a good ground game are necessary to change the outcome of elections, change legislation and help make a better tomorrow. It’s not enough to be active we must be effective. We must learn to …organize and communicate our message at a grassroots level, an area where conservatives have traditionally been weak. American Majority’s goal is to provide the necessary tools and resources to help conservatives become successful, and to equip them with the powerful knowledge of how to use those resources effectively.

American Majority Pennsylvania is pleased to announce that we will be holding an Activist Training in State College, Pennsylvania. American Majority’s Activist Training will teach you everything from organizational structure to advanced new media training to make substantial changes in your community.

When: Saturday, November 9th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Registration will open at 8:30 AM.

Where: The Ramada State College Hotel and Conference Center
(1450 S Atherton Street) in State College, Pennsylvania.

Cost: Registration is $20 and includes lunch and all training materials.

Training Topics*:

Why Bad Policies Hurt Real People: How policies that call for more spending, borrowing, taxation, and government are causing difficulty for real people in Pennsylvania. Learn about the “Big Government Party” and how unions are hurting our state.
Social Media, Your Secret Weapon: Learn how to use Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets to your advantage. Present your message to the masses and amplify your voice!
Effectivism: Big protests and lofty ideals are not the stepping blocks to success. Change your focus from the federal government to your own local government and learn how to become an effective voice in your community. Real change starts with you at the local level.

Call to action – Senators Toomey and Casey Scheduled to Vote Dangerous Bill That Threatens Religious Freedom and Conscience

Senators Toomey and Casey Scheduled to Vote
Dangerous Bill That Threatens Religious Freedom and Conscience

Employers know best what qualities or characteristics are relevant to performing a particular job, not the federal government. So why does Congress want to inject itself into business owners employment decisions?
This is the question that needs to be asked as the Senate moves to vote on the so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), a bill that would prohibit businesses from taking into account any conduct related to “actual or perceived sexual identity or gender identity” when making employment decisions even if it violates their religious beliefs or if it is inappropriate for their workplace.
ENDA would force religious business owners and workplaces such as Christian bookstores, religious publishing houses, pre-schools and religious television and radio stations to accept as normal any employee who has had a sex-change surgery, any employee who has changed or is “transitioning” their public “gender identity” (regardless of whether they have had surgery or hormone treatments), transvestites (people who dress as the opposite sex on an occasional basis for emotional or sexual gratification), and drag queens or drag kings (people who dress as the opposite sex for the purpose of entertaining others).
Making matters worse, “perceived gender identity” status does not require sex-change surgery, so ENDA would allow some biological males (who claim to be female) to enter and even appear nude before females in bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers. Situations like this have already been reported in several states with ENDA like laws such as Maine, Colorado and California.
ENDA offers no guidance on how employers should deal with these situations and opens them up to costly lawsuits by inviting disgruntled employees to sue for “discrimination” over a characteristic (in the case of sexual orientation) which is not even visible and of which the employer may have been unaware. This has already been seen in the case of public employers (which are explicitly covered by ENDA) where such laws at the local and state level have led to large settlements being paid at taxpayers’ expense.
Please contact US Senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey, Jr and urge them to oppose S. 815, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act as it imposes on employers freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of conscience and the free market economy.

PLEASE TAKE ACTION TODAY!

CALL YOUR U.S. Senators and ask them to please Vote NO on S. 815, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Congress should not tell private employers whom to hire or make sexual orientation or gender identity a protected class. It’s a matter of protecting the right of conscience and religious freedom.

Call Bob Casey, Jr at 202-224-6324

Republican Women collect Jared Boxes at Fall Conference

In keeping with our PFRW President’s theme, “Our Children, Our Future,” Jared Boxes will be collected on October 19th, 2013 at the Fall Conference.

Individuals may bring or box, or perhaps a group or council would like to put a box together.

jared box projectThe goal of the Jared Box Project is to lift the spirits of chronically ill children. The boxes symbolize the importance of play and are filled with well wishes, hope, and love.

A Jared Box is a shoebox size plastic storage box filled with small gifts, toys, cards, and games. Each box contains items selected for a specific age and gender. The boxes are delivered to hospitals and are given to chronically ill children. The Jared Boxes provide a special diversion for young patients as they receive chemotherapy and other medical treatments.

The Jared Box Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  All donations are tax-deductible.

The Jared Box project was started in 2001 by the children at Our Lady of Victory School in State College, PA to honor their classmate and friend, Jared. He was a brave little boy who battled cancer with courage and faith that continues to inspire us all.

For directions on putting together a Jared Box to go http://www.thejaredbox.com/makeAJaredBox.html  Boxes will be donated to the Children’s Weis Hospital in Danville, PA.

PFRW Fall Conference Morning Speaker – Heather Hibbs will explain how women communicated during civil war times

Heather HibbsHeather Hibbs lives in Snyder County with husband  Andy Hibbs for 19 years.  They have two daughters in the Midd West school system.  Heather is a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration; a self taught seamstress specializing in Civil War reproduction clothing.  She is the creator and owner of Treadle Treasures.  She also teaches an adult Sunday School class at our church – Mifflinburg Nazarene – as well as leading some of the Wed. and Sun. evening services.  Heather has  been active her kids’ school in many areas.  She collect antiques and love old stuff, traditions, and skills.  Heather is currently making a wool hooked rug from the scraps of uniforms she has made.  In addition to sewing she makes and sells I  lye and lard soap.  She has made candles, helped butcher hogs and makes her own bread from an antique wooden bowl.  Heather feels she could easily live in the 19th century, but she sure would miss her microwave!

Treadle Treasures:

About ten years ago, Heather Hibbs started her business, Treadle Treasurers.  She was making a variety of items when she finally found her nitch in Civil War era reproduction clothing about seven years ago.  The business really expanded when she moved it on-line.  Most of her business is out of state with a few orders going overseas.  California is the most frequently shipped to state.  Most of her sewing is done on antique treadle sewing machines; Heather currently owns twelve plus two hand crank machines.  For a more detailed history of Treadle Treasures go to:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/TreadleTreasures/about/

Some of her most popular items are women’s dresses and underpinnings and she specialize in corsets; shopping an average of around 250 corsets a year.  Heather  also offers men’s military and civilian clothing.  She has also stitched a few children’s items and other Civil War era related items as well.  She  currently has five (very!) part time people working for her.

She works with a lot of reenactors, university and town theaters, an independent film makers, a PBS special, the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Virginia.

Heather started speaking to her kids school classes and things sort of progressed from there.  Working at home has a lot of advantages and she   enjoys the chance to get out and around other people!
