Mark’s letter to the editor

(A letter to the editor submitted by Mark J.  Harris on 8/30/2010)

A free press is necessary for a free society; the constitutional protection of a free press comes with responsibility.  Responsibility would require an objective, honest and accurate reporting of issues facing the public.

The Daily Item’s promotion of one political candidate over another by printing “Carney to attack foe over mob ties” is nothing less than slanderous accusations and beyond shameless.  Tom Marino’s steadfast support of a close personal friend should be commended.  How many times have any of us needed a warm hand of someone we relied on as a friend, or the embrace of a supporter, only than to be denied that because others found you to be undesirable?  How many times have you denied your faith or the warmth of friendship because you were uncomfortable or you felt it was the popular thing to do?  You may not recognize Mr. Marino’s insistence not to discard his friend for political gain; it’s called courage.  The content of Tom Marino’s character will not permit those deemed by society as undesirable or unfit to be swept aside or as he would say “thrown under the bus.”  It is that type of courage which is missing in our political system today.  Tom Marino, as Congressman of the 10th Congressional District, will be the friend in Washington representing our views and values that we desperately need.

Mark J. Harris

Tom Marino ahead of Carney in the polls!

Lou Barletta has amazing name recognition.  Tom Marino does not. But a recent poll shows both Republicans ahead of incumbent Democrats in races for U.S. House seats representing Northeastern Pennsylvania. – www.timesleader.com/news/Poll_sees_GOP_ahead_in_area_Congress_tilts_08-22-2010.html

SHAME ON THE DAILY ITEM!

The August 12, 2010 Sunbury Daily Item Editorial states, Carney, Marino ought to get focused on the issues (http://dailyitem.com/0110_editorials/x1627561197/Carney-Marino-ought-to-get-focused-on-issues).  The editorial then goes on to claim Congressman Carney is pro-life and votes that way; which is far from correct.  Congressman Carney’s very first vote as c9ngressman was for using tax money to fund abortion.  See Carney’s record listed below for the facts.  Abortion IS an issue that is important to many of us!

1/11/07 Carney voted (roll call 19) against the National Right to Life Committee position on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act anti-cloning amendment. This bill would mandate federal funding of the type of stem cell research that requires the killing of human embryos in order to harvest their stem cells.

1/11/07 Carney voted again (roll call 20) against the National Right to Life Committee position on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act.

1/12/07 Carney voted (roll call 23) against the National Right to Life Committee position on the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act. Under the guise of lowering costs through “government negotiation”, this bill would have effectively stripped seniors of the right to use there own money to buy drugs.

6/6/07 (possible Carney defense) Carney voted (roll call 439) WITH the National Right to Life Committee position on the “The Human Cloning Prohibition Act.”. NRL opposed this deceptively named legislation because it would have allowed the creation of cloned human embryos.

6/21/07 Carney voted to send taxpayer dollars overseas (roll call 534) to fund abortion by overturning the pro-life “Mexico City” policy.

2007 NARAL rates Carney 100% pro-choice.

7/19/07 Carney voted to keep funding (roll call 684) the largest abortion provider in country, Planned Parenthood (1/3rd of its billion $ budget is federal money). Then he voted to expand funding (roll call 1171) 5 months later.  Planned Parenthood was exposed by UCLA journalism student Lila Rose for accepting donations to abort certain minorities and last year for telling a potential client to lie about her age to avoid requirements to report statutory rape.
