(A book Irene encourages you to read) In Andre Harper’s book Political Emancipation, a book he wrote about his “personal political odyssey and experiences leading to his departure from the Democratic party and led to his political emancipation followed by his emergence as an independent thinker;” he writes,
“. . . the Republican Party was the party of principles. From the beginning, the Party believed in individual freedom, patriotism, limiting government, protecting our land and despite the contentious political climate of the day, it fought to end slavery. I can’t imagine the courage it took for those men to oppose an institution that directly resulted in early wealth creation of this nation. The abolition of slavery could have potentially destroyed the economy of this country. Nonetheless, they fought to end it anyway because principles trump the situational ethics practiced by Democrats.”
