PA GOP: Day 2 And Chris Carney Continues To Support The Largest Tax Increase In History

For Immediate Release9/21/2010

HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Spokesman Mike Barley again called on 10th Congressional District candidate Chris Carney to explain why he continues to stand in favor of the largest tax increase in history.

“It’s time for Chris Carney to explain to the hardworking people of the 10th Congressional District why he continues to stand in favor of the largest tax increase in American history,” Barley said. “Chris Carney has voiced his support for a tax increase that will cripple the economy of northeastern Pennsylvania at a time that so many families are struggling to ends meet.

“Chris Carney is trying to sell voters that he is an independent, but his support for Barack Obama’s and Nancy Pelosi’s tax-and-spend big government agenda paints a much different picture of his liberal record. With his support of the repeal of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, government-run health care and a nearly $1 trillion stimulus package that has done nothing to keep unemployment in his region from surpassing double-digits, Chris Carney earns an ‘F’ for fiscal responsibility.  However, he gets an ‘A’ in the subject of supporting Nancy Pelosi’s radical agenda, voting with her 91% of the time.  He is clearly out-of-step with northeastern Pennsylvanians’ values.”

An October 28th, 2008 article in The Sunbury Daily Item reports that “Carney opposed extending Bush’s tax cuts of 2001 and 2003.”(Coulter Jones, “Carney vs. Hackett: Their View On The Economy,” Sunbury Daily Item, 10/28/08)

Mark’s Letter to the Editor 9-21-2010

In a recent letter to the editor, one of our county officials touted “all the good things Chris Carney has done for us.“  I believe in this climate of economic and political uncertainty we should explore what Chris Carney and the Democrat controlled Congress has done to us.

The four years Mr. Carney has represented the 10th Congressional district we have seen our gas and diesel prices surge to $4 and $5 per gallon. We’ve seen a meltdown of the financial and real estate markets; our budget deficit has tripled and the nation’s debt has almost doubled.  Our unemployment rate has gone from historic lows of 4.5% to 9.6% and the social security system and other safety net programs have been operating at a loss for the last two years.

What is the solution from Congressman Carney and his friends? His answer is to raise taxes, raise taxes on the oil and energy companies and their, in his words “their bloated and excessive profits.” Thanks to Chris Carney and company, we, the tax payers now own an insurance company, two auto manufactures and numerous banks and other financial interests. In their spare time which spanned about a year, he and his colleagues have saddled the American public with a tax and health care package, which (if it is not repealed) will haunted us forever.

I believe the supporters of  Congressman Carney are somewhat labored in finding positive examples of his leadership to recite, because there is more effort in being a United States Congressman than simply speaking kindly for a favored highway project or giving tax payer monies to the area’s private educational institutions. This letter and a hundred like it would only scratch the surface of all the damage to our economy and country Chris Carney and the 111th Congress have done, November 2nd cannot come soon enough.

SUNACRW win first place with scrapbook at convention!

The PA Federation of Republican Women held their annual conference September 17, 18 & 19th in Lancaster, PA.  Everyone had a good time as we heard from Edward Turzanski, a Senior Fellow for Policy; Center on Terrorism, Counter-Terrorism and Homeland Security.  Joseph Gerachet presented, All Politics and Campaigns Are Local, and there was a Celebrate Women’s Luncheon.  After a rejuvenating speech from Renee Amoore, she had the entire room rocking to the song, “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now.”  The SUNACRW donated children’s books for the Literacy Committee, canned good, alum tabs, and postage stamps for the Caring for America Committee. There was time for networking and shopping.  The SUNACRW placed first place in the most original and second place in best theme cover for their scrapbook.  The scrapbook is a way of keeping track of our activities and history of the council.  Pictured below are Irene Harris and Jolene Bierly holding the scrapbook awards.
