Socks for Soldiers!

tube socksThe PA Federation of Republican Women are collecting tube socks for our troops overseas.  So many little things we take for granted, like going to our drawer, pulling out a pair of socks and changing whenever we like.  Our soldiers who are over there fighting for our freedom, so we can change socks however many times a day we like, are they themselves in need of socks.

PFRW will be collecting socks at their next board meeting on August 9, 2013. If you are not attending the board meeting, but would like to donate socks, please see someone who is a Republican Women member.

First of all, our next PFRW Board Meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 9th at 2 p.m.  I hope you are able to join us as we meet in Canonsburg, PA.  Complete details on the board meeting were sent out earlier this month.  Board reports are due by August 2, 2013 for inclusion in the board packets.  Reports should be sent in to PFRW by email (pfrw@comcast.net) or regular mail (PA Federation of Republican Women, 806 North Second Street, Harrisburg, PA, 17102.  I would like to have the chance to read them, too so please feel free to email yours to me at hatton81@msn.com or send by regular mail to 13 Sunset Drive, Clinton PA 15026.

Council Presidents and PFRW members are always welcome to attend our board meetings.  Local council members should let their president know that they are attending the board meeting.  Council presidents should notify their regional director if they and/or some of their members will be coming.  I want to make sure everyone is introduced and welcomed.

As was previously announced, the North and South West Regional Conference will be held August 9 and 10 in Canonsburg, PA.  The South Central Regional Conference is set for September 28th at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Camp Hill, PA.  The North Central PFRW Fall Conference will be October 19th at the Shade Mountain Winery in Middleburg, PA.  Information on each of these events was sent out via email and regular mail.  There are also details on the PFRW web site (www.pfrw.org) and our new Facebook Page at Pennsylvania Federation of Republican Women.  Make sure you “like” us!

National Federation of Republican Women celebrate 75 years!

75th Anniversary Celebration
2013

NFRW 75 bday cake2013 is a year of celebration, reflection and contemplation for the National Federation of Republican Women, as we celebrate 75 years of excellence in bringing together thousands of Republican women to work toward our common goals of promoting Republican principles, objectives, policies and candidates.

The NFRW kicked off the 75th anniversary celebration in early March during the NFRW Spring Board of Directors Meeting in Arlington, Va. Attendees enjoyed a festive cake (pictured right), as well as a special video featuring U.S. House and Senate GOP leaders and other GOP elected officials who wished the NFRW “Happy Birthday.”

The video was produced by NFRW 4th Vice President Lisa Roper and Kim Chambers, both of the Texas Federation of Republican Women. Watch the video on our home page.

The NFRW was founded in 1938 when Marion E. Martin called a meeting at the Palmer House in Chicago to organize hundreds of independent Republican women’s clubs across the country into a national organization. We will continue to celebrate our 75th year throughout 2013, with the grand finale planned in September at the 37th Biennial Convention in Louisville, Ky.

Would you like to be part of Republican Women but don’t feel you have the time? Why not start a Satellite Club?

The Power of Satellite Clubs

The Magic Valley Republican Women in Idaho is a new club – formed in 2012. They are located in a rural area in the southeast corner of Idaho. The club started working on forming NFRW satellite groups last winter when they realized that making club meetings was sometimes difficult for those women in rural areas. Targeting three communities, the first thing they did was download NFRW’s Ten-Step Guide to Forming a Satellite Group from the NFRW website.  They then put together a ring binder with the following: Magic Valley Republican Women by-laws and standing rules; contact info for Board Members and Committee Chairs; a membership list; the NFRW Vision and Mission Statement; NFRW Membership Committee’s “Ideas to Spark Membership” from the NFRW website; a Magic Valley Republican Women’s Club membership form, as well are their mission statement. They also included a video, “They Came to America.”

The first satellite group meeting was comprised of six women.  Club members explained what the role of the club would be. They stressed how the satellite group members would be members of the Magic Valley Republican Women club,  the Idaho FRW and the NFRW, and they assured them that the club would be there to mentor them.  Club members promised to attend two meetings a year with the satellite group and to be available to assist with local elections.

Magic Valley RW has now approached all three communities. Of the three, one community may set up a group and the other two are trying to get their women together. The Magic Valley RW members keep attending this area’s Central Committee Meetings to show their interest in having these satellite groups join their club.

Magic Valley RW is even contacting women in Elko, Nevada, not far over the state boundary, to help start a Nevada Federation satellite club. The Idaho club members had gone to Elko to help Nevada women during the November election and asked why there wasn’t a club in that area. Their goal is to get a club chartered for the Nevada FRW in an area which is very politically active but whose Federated club had become inactive.

Past President of the Magic Valley RW, Billie Dingus, explains, “Honestly, this is a slow process but our goal is to have small groups that will help us walk all the small communities during the next election cycle.”

Registration for NFRW’s 37th Biennial Convention is now open!  Details can be found at www.nfrw.org.

NFRW members and guests will find that Louisville really is “possibility city.” It will be possible to enjoy a horse race at Churchill Downs during the opening night reception. There will be possibilities to learn – both at the leadership school, Message, Money and Motivation – Learning to Lead, and at the Saturday afternoon educational seminars.  You might even find it is possible to walk in the footsteps of President Lincoln during a tour along the Lincoln Heritage Trail organized by the Kentucky Federation of Republican Women. You won’t want to miss the possibility to hear from Kentucky’s two United States Senators, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Rand Paul. As they say in Louisville, the possibilities are endless and we look forward to seeing you there in September.
