School Choice Rally on the Capitol Steps

Join the Pennsylvania Family Council – on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, beginning at 12 noon, when supporters of school choice for Pennsylvania parents will hold a Senate Bill 1 Rally on the Front Steps of the Capitol Building, Harrisburg .

We want to have a good showing of support for school choice from parents and families from around the state.

Senate Bill 1 will add $25 million to the highly successful EITC program and establish a new Opportunity Scholarship Program for PA’s low-income schoolchildren.

Give kids a LIFELINE from failing or unsafe schools. Give real choices to PARENTS. Tell your senator: Pass SB1! Click on the “Contact Your Legislator” button and take action:www.reachaheadpa.org.

School Choice Town Hall

The Union County Republican Committee will host a Town Hall meeting March 22 at the Lewisburg Area High School, 815 Market Street, Lewisburg, at 7 pm.

The topic is: School Vouchers; It’s Your Choice

Guest speaker is Senator Anthony Williams, Democrat, 8th District, Philadelphia.  The Commonwealth Foundation will present their research findings, in support of Senator Williams current bill SB1, the Opportunity Scholarship Act.

Senator Anthony Williams, a lifelong resident of West Philadelphia, is serving his 4th term in the PA Senate. He is currently the minority whip. He, along with Senator Jeff Piccola, Republican, 15th district (Dauphin and York Counties), authored SB 1 to provide educational options for students imprisoned in failing public schools.

In the first two years, the failing school districts will be addressed. In year three, vouchers for low income students will expand to include all PA public school districts. These vouchers will allow the parent to use the voucher to send their children to the school of their choice, public or private.

The Commonwealth Foundation is a non-profit independent research and educational foundation. Its mission is to effectively demonstrate the social benefits of individual liberty, free enterprise, and a limited and accountable government so that key decision makers in PA will embrace these principles.
