The Central Susquehanna Valley Thru-Way Project is and will be a priority of mine when elected as Congressman for the 10th Congressional District.  I fully support the project because of added public safety and the economic growth will enhance the region. It is my belief the project must be funded through the Transportation and Department of Commerce budgets, not by earmarks and special favors behind closed doors.  As Congressman I believe the Central Susquehanna Valley Thru-Way project must be completed not because of election year politics but because it is the right thing to do.

TOM CORBETT TALKS ABOUT HIS SMALL BUSINESS PLAN AT ERIE TRANSPORTATION SUPPLY COMPANY

Says Pennsylvania needs to be on the side of small business owners
Erie – Republican Gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett spoke today about the importance of small businesses to Pennsylvania’s economy as he toured TESCO (Transportation Equipment Supply Company) in Erie.

“It is time for small businesses like TESCO to have someone on their side in Harrisburg,” said Corbett, “For far too long, state government has been an adversary to job growth.”

Tom Corbett’s plan to grow small business in Pennsylvania focuses on helping business owners and cutting through the red tape that often stands in the way of growth. Some highlights of the plan include simplifying the tax code, instituting regulatory flexibility for small businesses and repealing the Inheritance Tax.

“Small business owners are dealt too many roadblocks when trying to grow their business,” said Corbett, “They are heavily burdened by the costs of government regulation and excessive paperwork. That is why I want to change that as Pennsylvania’s next governor.”

With over 236,000 small businesses in Pennsylvania, they are an integral part of the state’s economy and critical to its success. Tom Corbett has been personally visiting companies like TESCO to learn firsthand the concerns of business owners. He has discussed with business leaders and employees the importance of keeping jobs in Pennsylvania and making sure we see growth in our jobs market.
“I believe it is time to restore the commonwealth’s rightful position in the global marketplace by partnering with business leaders to build job creation policies that will secure Pennsylvania’s future,” said Corbett.

“We need to encourage job creators like TESCO to grow and invest in Pennsylvania,” said Corbett. “It is critical to put money back in the hands of small business owners so they can hire more workers and expand their business.”

TESCO designs, develops, manufactures and distributes specialty maintenance and repair tools for diesel locomotive engines. It is family owned and was started 32 years ago in the owner’s basement.  The company’s product line has since grown to over 2,000 individual tools for various applications, as well as many custom-designed products for specific operations worldwide. TESCO’s home is a state-of-the-art 30,000 square-foot fabrication and manufacturing facility in Erie, Pennsylvania.

ELIZABETHTOWN—Pennsylvania Attorney General and Republican gubernatorial candidate, Tom Corbett, unveiled his campaign agricultural policy and Farm Families for Corbett Coalition on Monday, July 19th at Kenneth Myer’s dairy farm in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County. Surrounded by more than 75 supporters and friends in the Ag community, Tom spoke about his plans to create and maintain an environment in which the agriculture industry can thrive and grow.

Corbett calls on Rendell to refrain from spending $300 million on projects with borrowed funds

$600 million increase in state’s borrowing limit allows Rendell to spend $300 million to fund projects, including $10 million for Specter library
Harrisburg – Attorney General Tom Corbett today called on Gov. Ed Rendell to refrain from spending nearly $300 million on projects during his last six months as governor.

The $300 million is included in a package of budget bills that raises the state’s debt ceiling or borrowing limit by $600 million and was passed by the Legislature as part of the $28 billion state budget approved by Gov. Rendell.

Corbett, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, said when the state unemployment rate is 9.1 percent and we have a hole of $850 million in our current budget, Gov. Rendell wants to borrow more money to fund projects such as the Arlen Specter Library Project Center, which is scheduled to receive $10 million.

Corbett said, “We have a budget deficit for this year, the last thing we should be doing is borrowing more money to fund projects.”

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that the debt service, which also must be paid by the taxpayers, is $48 million on the $600 million increase of the debt ceiling.

“This is a classic example of what’s wrong with Harrisburg,” Corbett said. “Gov. Rendell will be long out of office, but our children and grandchildren will be paying the debt service or interest for his spending for years and years to come.”

Corbett also called on Dan Onorato to join him in urging Gov. Rendell to not to spend the $300 million in borrowed funds.
Corbett said the governor should know that this is not the not the time to be borrowing more money to fund projects, regardless of their potential worth, when he just cut spending for family farmers.
Corbett said, “You can’t tax, borrow and spend your way to prosperity.  Someday the bill comes due and it’s the taxpayers who are left holding the bag.”
